Breakfast for the lion cubs. Went with Lucy and Jeroen, both from Holland, to collect the lion cubs from their cages and bring them to their play pens. This was quite the ordeal. Talk about herding cats!
We were then put into groups and we had to clean out either the horse stalls or the elephant's house. Sarah and I went to the elephant's house. It smelled, but wasn't too messy. We cleaned that place up nice and neat.
Off to breakfast with everyone. Today we had oatmeal. Yum!
After eating, we were assigned to groups to clean and straighten the yard because visitors were expected. Sarah and I were assigned to rake leaves. However, after about 10 minutes of raking, one of the owners, Vicki, called us aside and asked if Sarah and I wanted to go on a game drive. Of course!
We went all over the park with Vicki and one of her long time friends Fritz Coupe. Vicki was an excellent guide and took us to see almost everything. On the trip, we found out that Fritz is a very famous big game hunter. Of course Sarah and I were a little upset, but Fritz explained how he hunts the weak, not trophy hunting. He and Vicki told us of a special hunt when they much younger using helicopter, fixed wing and radio to locate a special, rare animal...very large antelop. We felt we were in the presence of some great African animal advocates.
After lunch...Martha makes the best food (picture coming Thursday), we rested to be ready for the next adventure.
This afternoon we loaded up Sheba, an adolescent lioness, for a lion walk. All the volunteers loaded in the back of the pickup pulling the trailer with the cage holding Sheba. After a drive up into the hills, we let Sheba out of her cage and she took us for a walk!
Back to the stables and time to feed the big 5 lions. Oh my!! Lion fight!!!
Time again to feed the lion cubs. They're getting pretty aggressive. About time to put them in a large enclosure to roam free.
Off to dinner and card games in the bar.
Until later.
