For breakfast, Alex and Mike's domestic, Velma, made pap for us. It's like grits, but the corn is ground very finely. It was simple, wonderfully delicious and filling. Next week when we come back from Clarens, Velma said that she would make us "Pap and Vleis" which is corn meal and chicken in a spicy sauce. Yum!

After breakfast, we went to The Cradle of Humankind. This is an archeological site where the first complete skeleton of Australopithecus Africanus was found, an important link in the origins of the human species.

We then went to the Sterkfontein Caves where we went spelunking and saw where many of the Cradle of Humankind skeletons where found and excavated. Very cool!

After hiking the caves, we drove back through Johannesburg and stopped at 44 Stanley for dinner and some beer and wine. What an amazing place. It was packed with people of all ages eating, drinking and listening to live bands. It was Portland's best pubs on steroids. Sarah ordered sweet potato and blue cheese pizza while I ordere spaghetti bolognaise. The chef knew her stuff because the food was excellent.
