I was going through some old documents in my apartment when I found a list of things to do before I turn 40. The list was dated June 25, 2011; three days after I was diagnosed with cancer. On the list was "Safari in Africa."
Two days ago, one of my customers at the store, Alex Garcia, invited me to visit her in South Africa. She and her husband live in Pretoria. I guess this is fate, the planets aligned and the Universe is telling me its time to go.
I've just bought the tickets for Sarah and I to fly to Johannesburg. Fifty-one hours. Wow! South Africa is a long way away. I have no idea what we're going to do when we're there. The only thi g on the list is to go on safari and see "The Big 5" - Lions, Elephants, Rhinoceros, Giraffes and Water Buffalo.
This could possibly be a life changing experience for me. I know that's cliche, but I'm totally excited about this. I'm going to Africa. How many people say to you "Hey, I'm going to Africa in August." What should I wear? Should I get a new outfit? Should I get matching shoes? Duh, of course I should. I guess it's time for me to start making the list. :-)
